“Excuse me, Can you please tell me where the seat no. 33 is”.
Red trousers, the first thing I noticed about her. She was hardly 25; dusky complexion, lean body, a truss of hair wandering carelessly on the forehead, and a sharp gaze. I would not lie if I say she was beautiful.
I’d boarded the train at Una Himachal railway station. It was a last minute confirmation and I was celebrating (yeah, I know it was not a good reason to celebrate but I did). While I was happily adjusting my sleeping space for the night, she happened to me.
“Hello, are you listening?” she was waving her hand. I could see her head shaking in coordination with her hand movement. Eyes wide open.
“Can you please tell me where the seat no. 33 is” firmer this time.
I’d just finished my Limca, laced with a vodka quarter. My eyes were heavy and senses intoxicated. I wanted to respond but I couldn’t. All I could do was looking at her, almost awestruck as if met with a fairy, just landed from heaven and asking me for a date, and I, in an attempt to cope up with the surrounding, was trying to figure out if it was realty or dream.
Probably alcohol had done it to me, but it wasn’t the first time I was drinking and traveling. Some days are like that.
I shook my head and tried to hold my dimming eyes. She was wearing a black top, perfectly mapping her curves. God, I noticed it that late. Anyway, better late than never.
“Can you please tell me where the seat no. 33 is”, she was almost angry, chewing each word, even letter for that matter that she uttered, however, still managed to remain respectful.
“Nice girl” I thought and smiled but still couldn’t say anything.
“Stupid” finally she lost her cool. She gave me a angry look, whispered something and left. Poor girl, met an almost -unconscious and crazy guy.
My eyes tried to follow her but she disappeared.
I was worried if she found her seat no. 33.
“Nice girl” I thought or said don’t know.
I don’t remember what happened after that as I fell asleep the very next moment but I am sure I slept with a smile on my face that night.
