Title: 3 Mistakes of My Life
Author: Chetan Bhagat
Rating: 2.5 Stars
The 3 Mistakes of my Life by Chetan Bhagat is his third book after Five Point Someone and One Night @ Call Centre, which strengthened his stature as the bestselling author of India. He is also author for four more novels including Half Girlfriend, Revolution 2020 and One Indian Girl.
Set in the city of Ahmedabad, The 3 Mistakes of my Life is the story of three friends, Govind, Ishan and Omi whose friendship was tested by different situations and time and turn of events.
Govind, a born entrepreneur with sharp business acumen opens a sports material shop in collaboration with Ishan, who is a passionate and talented local cricketer, and Omi, who is a priest’s son and nephew of a local but influential politician.
The shop does well and starts growing, thanks to Govind’s sharp business brain. Everything goes well until Ishan meets Ali, a cricketing genius with an inherent ability to hit every ball to six. While Ishan’s too much concern about Ali bothers Govind, two disasters hit Ahmedabad which turn the world of these friends topsy-turvy.
I would refrain from telling the story as I don’t want to be a spoilsport for those who are planning this read this book. Talking about the literary aspects, CB refuses to grow as a writer but it isn’t bother him as millions love him for what he does. Like his previous books, it too has been read and loved by millions, at least sales figures say so.
I’ve nothing much to say about it. It’s a book you can enjoy as one enjoys fast food but as a passionate reader who reads book to get something out of it I was disappointed. The 3 Mistakes of My Life by Chetan Bhagat has been adapted as a Bollywood movie, titled as Kai Poche, starring Sushant Rajput and Raj Kumar Rao. Like most, I also believe that the movie is better than the book but that does not steal the credit from Chetan Bhagat who has offered a great plot for the makers to exploit.
